I am addicted to books. I always have been, whether it is fiction or non-fiction it doesn't matter. I love to read. And the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree. Sometimes my daughter will sit for over an hour with her books and just look through them. We spend a lot of time reading in the evening and she just can't get enough. As she is getting older and we are starting to homeschool, I am looking more discriminantly at the books she is reading and trying to find books that are exciting to her and yet educational. In my search for new books I came across Silver Dolphin Books. When I was looking through their site I was impressed with the variety of books they had to offer all age levels and all interests. I was especially interested in the educational nonfiction books that they had.
I was able to review two books from Silver Dolphin Books. The first book I received was for my two year old and it was the "Wheels on the Bus". The book is extremely cute and caught my son's eye right away. You can press a button on the front and it sings the song "the wheels on the bus". Then each page contains artistic pictures of each of the verses of the song. It is a nice, hardcover book and the last page has a surprise pop-out of the bus and the people all move on it. Since this is my son's favorite song I knew he would love the book and I wasn't disappointed. Since my son is still young, often times he doesn't make it through an entire book but he made it all of the way to the end of this one!!
My daughter loves to ride horses and so we recently started incorporating learning the parts of the horse and the breeds into our learning curriculum. She is really enjoying it but it has been hard to find a "curriculum" that isn't too much like a textbook since she is so young. So I was excited to find the book "Action Files: Horses". They say don't judge a book by its cover; but I did and I was right. The cover of the book is a dazzling lenticular cover (I had to look up the right words to describe this-it's that cool 3-d image where you can turn it different angles and the picture moves). Some of the book was a little bit over my daughter's head, which is great because she can grow with it, but most of the book could be used to teach any age. It had so much inside: 3-D horse mask, index cards about the breeds, stickers, horse poster and the history of the horse.
After receiving both of these books, I was not surprised to read and learn that Silver Dolphin Books have received all types of Parent Choice Awards. They certainly get a two thumbs up from me.
