Date Night, what's that??? (Giveaway)

Our First Anniversary

In three weeks it will be our SEVEN year anniversary!!! WOO HOO. I can't believe how fast time has flown! This is a picture of us on our very first anniversary, six years ago. I can remember it as if it were yesterday. We were celebrating by going out to dinner and leaving our one month old behind with my parents. I don't think I enjoyed too much of it as I spent the whole night worrying about my baby girl...and to top it off, we got stuck in traffic because of the local parade and it took a lot longer than we expected. Of course, my daughter was fine when I finally made it back home.

Six years later and I now dream of the opportunity to get away for a quiet dinner for two, but it doesn't happen very often with 3 kids!

So, when MyBlogSpark contacted me and asked if I wanted to have my own "date night" at home and  try out their Wanchai Ferry and Mararoni Grill Dinner kits it was a no brainer.

Wanchai Ferry Orange Chicken
This was my favorite meal. I was skeptical as to how this would taste from a box, but it was absolutely delicious. It was simple to make (when you don't skip a step-like rolling it in cornstarch that they provide-and yes, yours truly forgot this step :) and didn't take long at all. My husband was really impressed with this dish and I served it with some delicious egg rolls over a candlelight music-filled dinner!

Marcaroni Grill Creamy Basil Parmesan Chicken & Pasta
I don't eat out very often, but I had just eaten at Macaroni Grill a couple of weeks before I tried this one, and I have to say I was really surprised at how much the boxed dinner really did taste like it came from the restaurant (minus the wonderful waitress waiting on me hand and foot!). This is definitely a meal I would purchase for a quick dinner. Served with some fresh bread and it is just scrumptious!

Buy It: You can buy these at any of your local grocery stores!

Win it: One lucky winner will receive a Date Night prize pack that includes one Wanchai Ferry dry dinner kit, one Macaroni Grill dry dinner kit, and a $25 Visa gift card that you can use to create a magical date night at home.

Creativity for Kids-Do Art Pottery Review & Giveaway

I've always wanted to make pottery. I've even looked into some local classes and it always seemed expensive and was too big of a time commitment. But I have still always had that desire to try my hand at "throwing clay". I mean if nothing else, it sounds cool, right?  So, when Creativity for Kids asked me to review their Do Art Pottery Kit with my kids I couldn't wait to try it out. My husband and I flipped coins over who got to do make it with the kids and he won...but I got to take the pictures. So, here's what we thought:

The kit
I was impressed with all that was included in this kit. It comes with everything you need, even including the apron so you can keep your clothes clean! We didn't have to get anything to make the pottery...this was all inclusive. Included was:

  • Pottery wheel w/foot pedal
  • 3 lbs. of synthetic air dry clay
  • trimming cord w/handles
  • 6 piece sculpting tool set
  • white base paint
  • opaque acrylic paints
  • transparent glaze paints
  • 2 paint brushes
  • sponge
  • large table cover
  • artists apron
Making the Pottery

The kit came with an instruction booklet so it was easy to figure out what needed to be done, although a child definitely needs the assistance of an adult. This is not a "leave them alone" project!!! We chose to do it outside so there was no clean up :) Although it is not a  "real"pottery wheel which would cost hundreds of dollars, this seemed to be very high quality. There were grooves in the wheel which helps the clay stay centered. And it had a cool foot petal which my daughter just loved!!
The wheel was very easy to use, although there is a technique to the pinching and shaping of the clay that does take practice. So you'll see with each project they make it will get better. The good part is the kit comes with enough clay that you can make 4 or 5 projects.
Summary: With this pottery kit, your child is not going to make an artistic masterpiece to be sold for thousands of dollars, but they will be able to make a beautiful one of a kind piece of pottery that any family member would save and cherish.  It is definitely worth the $49.99 price label to introduce your child to making pottery and just have fun together...we certainly did.

Pillsbury® Grands!® Mini Biscuits Review and Giveaway

In the past, whenever I would travel, I would look forward to stopping at a McDonalds and getting their breakfast egg, sausage and cheese biscuit. Yummy!!! But after 3 kids and all of the baby weight, I'm looking more closely at what I eat these days, and the biscuit sandwiches are off the list. So, when I was asked to review the Pillsbury Grands Mini Biscuits and supposed to come up with my own use for them-I knew it would be a breakfast sandwich!

I love to make fresh rolls, but usually don't have the time. These are so convenient to make up last minute. And with only 70 calories in each biscuit I don't feel bad eating it in the morning with some egs and cheese and even a bit of turkey bacon! The biscuits are light and flaky and absolutely delicious!
What would you do with these flaky mini biscuits?
Win it! Winner will receive a Pillsbury® Grands!® Mini Biscuits prize pack which includes a VIP coupon good for a free package of biscuits, a $15 gift card, a biscuit basket, a butter dish and spreader.

To enter: submit your own recipe ideas, demonstrating how you would like to use Pillsbury® Grands!® Mini Biscuits.

Yoplait Whips Review & Giveaway!

Yogurt is a daily staple in my household. We all love yogurt, although there isn't much agreement on which flavor. My son always wants a chocolate flavor and my daughter always wants vanilla! It's amazing how different two children can be.

Thanks to MyBlogSpark I was able to try the Yoplait Whips. YUMMY!

Yoplait Whips! yogurt is currently available in nine delectable flavors – Chocolate Mousse, Chocolate Raspberry, Key Lime Pie, Lemon Burst, Orange Créme, Peaches ‘N Cream, Raspberry Mousse, Strawberry Mist, and Vanilla Créme.

We tried the chocolate raspberry flavor and I loved it. It has a mousse-type texture which is different than most yogurts. It is very light and makes for a really great afternoon snack. Of course, my son loved it when we took the yogurt and froze it for an ice cream snack, great for a hot afternoon.

My local grocery store (Publix) carries them for $.75 a piece. For the individual serving size yogurt, they are pretty much priced the same as the competition. I typically like to buy the larger quantities to save money so I was disappointed that they don't sell it in larger containers. But, they are delicious and a nice treat.

Thanks to MyBlogSpark and Yoplait, I have a gift package to offer a winner. Gift package includes: insulated cookler bag, freezer ice cream forms, and a coupon for a free Yoplait Whips!

To win:
-Leave a comment and share what Yoplait Whips flavor you would most enjoy frozen

Yoplait Greek Yogurt - 48 hour Giveaway!

Recently I had the opportunity to try the new Yoplait Greek Yogurt. I was excited to try this new one, because I am a huge fan of yogurt and eat it almost every morning. The Yoplait Greek Yogurt comes in 4 flavors: Strawberry, Honey Vanilla, Blueberry and Plain.

I decided to give the Greek plain yogurt a try. It was unlike any other brand of yogurt I have eaten in the past. It has a thicker and creamier texture. What I found most appealing about it is that it has 12 grams of protein which is twice the amount found in leading yogurts! You can't go wrong with this snack, yummy & good for you.

Thanks to MyBlogSpark and Yoplait, one lucky reader will have the opportunity to win a Yoplait Greek “Nourish Your Inner Goddess” gift pack, which includes some great items that will help you relax, including 2 coupons for a free Greek Yogurt!

To enter: To win a Nourish your Inner Goddess gift pack: Leave me a comment telling me what flavor you would like to try!

I've been a bit AWOL as I am sure you have noticed. For over four weeks our family has been fighting strep throat, colds and sinus infections. Being only 2 weeks away from my due date, we're doing everything we can to keep the house germ free so we don't keep spreading all these sicknesses. Yet, I do not like to use harsh chemical cleaners so I was quite excited when I opened my door to find a box of Seventh Generation cleaning supplies from MyBlogSpark.

Re-live your childhood with Rainbow Brite - Giveaway!

It seems like a lot of the dolls & toys from when I was young are making a comeback. The newest one to make an appearance is Rainbow Brite! Rainbow Brite, her two loyal friends Moonglow and Tickled Pink, and their companion horse friends: Starlite, Shimmer and Sunriser are making their big debut this month at Target and Toys R Us.

I was given a Rainbow Brite CD for my daughter to play with and she absolutely loved it. I'm still amazed at how a 5 year old can navigate computer games! The CD has some different games and puzzles (puzzles are my daughter's absolute favorites) which are a lot of fun.

I have a couple of extra CD's, which I would like to share with two of my readers.

To win a Rainbow Brite CD: Visit Rainbow Brite and leave a comment with your favorite character!

Wholesale Club shopping: to do or not to do??? (Giveaway)-CLOSED

Right before the holidays I was given the opportunity through Blog Spark to get a 3 month trial membership to BJ's. I am just about at the end of the trial membership so I thought I would share my findings with you:

The first time I went to BJ's, I didn't buy anything. Instead, I simply wrote down all of the items that I would normally purchase and their prices (Note, I left my kids home for this endeavor :) Then I went over to my favorite shopping store, which is Publix, and compared the prices. I then compared BJ's with Publix. In addition, I took the items that I know are quite often buy one get one free and compared that sale price with BJ's, my results surprised me quite a bit.

I found that on the basic staple items: orange juice, milk, butter, and eggs that BJ's was significantly cheaper even then when I find the items on sale at Publix. However, I was disappointed because even though they carried my brand of Orange Juice (my family is very orange juice specific) they didn't carry any orange juice with pulp in it which just won't fly in my family. And I found that even though the milk was cheaper it was not antibiotic and hormone free so it also wasn't an option for my family. The eggs and butter were definitely a pretty significant savings as well.

Meat was definitely cheaper here than at a grocery store without sales; however I found that Publix offers the same prices when the item is on sale. For instance, every 6-8 weeks Publix has chicken breasts for $1.99 a pound but is normally $3.99 a pound. BJ's is always $2.99. So, if you can utilitze the concept of stock piling you can do better at Publix; however for the convience of purchasing what you want when you want BJ's is a terrific option.

Because I don't purchase a lot of pre-packaged foods there wasn't a lot of savings to be found on a normal basis; however I did find that for large parties (which we seem to have a fair amount) their sheet cakes and drinks and chips can save almost enough to justify the membership fee alone.

I was super excited that they will take coupons...as it allowed me to score some pretty good deals. For instance they had Welch's sparkling cider priced at 4 for $6.99 and we had those $2/2 coupons online right before Christmas, which means I got 4 bottles for $2.99!!

In summary: At first, I was not overwhelmed with the amount of savings. And I was fairly disappointed in the fact that many of the specific items I purchase on a regular basis were not available there. I can do better stockpiling when things are on sale. However, when looking at all of the information, overall, on those occasions when I need to purchase items and I haven't planned well enough or it is last minute BJ's has a lot of savings to offer.

The fact that they also have a gas station which is almost always $.03 or more cheaper combined with the fact that they accept coupons I have decided to go ahead and purchase a full membership for the year which is $45. My thought is that, especially with having a new baby this upcoming May, that although my intentions are to never shop without coupons & always stockpile, life sometimes gets in the way and BJs will allow me to still save money.

In conjunction with this BJ's shopping experiment, BlogSpark has graciously given me a $25 gift certificate to BJ's that I can offer one lucky winner!!

Win one: One lucky reader will win a $25 gift certificate to BJ's.
To enter: Leave me a comment telling me what item you would love to stock up on at BJ's.

Switch Flops Giveaway!-Closed

This summer my cousin bought her first house and I was helping her pack for the big move. As we packed up her stuff, I couldn't help but drool over the number of shoes she had in her closet. First off, my husband would kill me if I had that many. Second, we really just don't have that much room in our house. Yet here I am living in Florida with only 2 pairs of flip flops to my name and my cousin who lives up north has over 10 pairs!!! No Fair. But I have found the perfect solution...SwitchFlops!

In case you haven't heard of SwitchFlops, they are an innovative, interchangeable footwear line. Basically, they are a pair of sandals that you can change the top strap on to match different outfits! It is the perfect solution for anyone who loves to change their shoes to match their outfits but like me, lack the storage space for that many shoes!

I had the opportunity to review a pair of SwitchFlops and I was very impressed with them. The soles were extremely comfortable. I wore them the first day I got them all day long and they didn't rub. The interchangeable straps were easy to change, with just a simple velcro. They straps stay on tight and you cannot tell that they are removable when you are wearing them. And of course they are totally cute and stylish looking. I love the fact that I can now just purchase additional straps to add onto the base instead of all new shoes which are more expensive and take up lots of room. Plus when these wear out, I can purchase a new shoe but still keep all of the interchangeable straps so it is only the cost of replacing one shoe.

I highly recommend purchasing the Switchflops for any shoe lover on your Christmast list this year!

Buy one:
WHAT THEY COST: $35 for LuLu; $39 for Taylor; $49 for Lilly; $12 for each additional strap WHERE TO FIND THEM: http://www.switchflops.com/ and select boutiques nationwide

Win one: One lucky reader will win a pair of SwitchFlops!

To enter: Visit SwitchFlops and pick out your favorite SwitchFlop and strap and leave me a comment telling me what it is.

The Armed Band It (Giveaway)-Extended

A while ago I reviewed the Purse Hook-er from one of my favorite, unique companies: MyTagalongs. So I am more than happy to tell you about another one of their products that I have had the chance to review.

About two months ago my friend and I started walking a couple of times a week. Okay, maybe it was mostlyfor the sake of getting out of the house and having time to have "grown-up" talk, but we really were hoping to shed a few pounds and get in shape. Since we were new at this whole walking thing we weren't equipped with any of the new exercise apparel out there. One of the biggest problems I found is that I wanted to carry my cell phone with us but I had no place to put it since I didn't have any pockets. That's when I discovered Armed Band It.

The Armed Band it a small pouch that you wear on your arm that can hold car keys, Ipods or just about anything else. The pouch is a good size so you really could fit quite a bit in it. While we were briskly this was the perfect solution for me; however I think if you were trying to run it would be a bit bulky to wear. It has an elastic criss-cross band that makes sure that it stays on snug and doesn't slip down while you are walking.

About MyTagalongs:
MYTAGALONGS co-founders Jeannie Vondjidis and Nicole Authier interviewed over 200 women across Canada, delving into their handbags in order to understand their daily needs. The problem today is that when it comes to organizing their lives, women don't have time to shuttle from store to store to find the items that they require, explains Vondjidis, who graduated from the London School of Economics and has 20 years experience in marketing communications working on world class brands such as Disney and L´Oreal. With MYTAGALONGS, we wanted to create a destination brand that groups together fun, fashionable items that answer most of women´s real life needs.

Designed for work, travel and every day life, MYTAGALONGS accessories help women to be prepared for anything that life might throw at them. Presented as individual items, mini-kits and kits, these accessories can tackle most situations from an unraveled hem and a crushed tampon, to packing strategically.

Win it:
One lucky reader will win an Armed Band it of their own!

Fit and Fold Giveaway

I used to get so frustrated trying to fold my fitted sheets. I would fold it and refold it, and it still never looked good. So then....I gave up. Really. I pretty much make one quick attempt and whatever it looks like is how it stays. So I was more than interested when I heard about this new, innovative solution called Fit and Fold which consists of 4 button-like snaps.

About Fit and Fold
Fit & Fold's four handy snaps attach to the corners of any fitted sheet, making it an instant snap to get a fitted sheet on a mattress correctly the first time, every time. In addition, Fit & Fold makes it simple to fold a fitted sheet-- so simple that one person can do it in just seconds. Available in a variety of colors to compliment linens, the snaps stay attached in the washer and dryer and are designed to not rip or tear the sheet.

My experience with Fit and Fold
The first time I put the Fit and Fold snaps on my sheets I was a bit skeptical. Okay, maybe I'm a little slow but it took me about 10 minutes to read the directions and figure out what I was doing. But the good news is that once they are on, they stay on. You wash the sheets with the buttons on. So this is a one-time installation process. Yeah! The buttons definitely made it easy to fold my sheets and make them look good.

Once the buttons were on the sheet I was ready to see if it was really going to work. And I have to say: YES!!! My sheet folded up nice and flat and the corners were square instead of round. The first attempt was pretty good but still a little uneven. The second time I did it the sheet was folded perfect. It was an awesome feeling. Now my linen closet looks so much better and I seem to have extra room because the sheets are folded so flat.

But to be honest, I thought my favorite part about this was that my sheets were going to be folded neater. But what I really liked about the Fit and Fold is that the buttons are actually labeled which one is the top left, top right, bottom left or bottom right. So it makes it easy to put the sheets on the first time. Usually I have to turn the sheets a couple of times before I get it right.

Win it: One lucky winner will win a Fit and Fold.
