$30 Label Daddy Gift Card Giveaway-Closed

Two weeks ago I felt like the worst mom ever. It was ten minutes before my daughter’s first horse show and her helmet was nowhere to be found. My daughter was in tears; she just couldn’t ride without her special purple helmet. We looked around thinking it would be easy to spot a purple helmet; but we quickly realized that purple was the “in” color as half of all the riders had purple helmets! My mom had come along to watch the show so when she realized what was going on she said let’s just ask everyone to check their helmets. I had a huge knot in my stomach as I had to admit that I had never put her name in it! Thankfully the story had a happy ending as we found another girl who was upset because her helmet wasn’t fitting her the way it should…which made sense seeing as she was a ten year old girl wearing my 4 year old daughter’s helmet! However, the moment I got home I went online to find a label company, which is how I discovered Label Daddy.

Label Daddy has a label for anything and everything. They have labels for your spice containers, shoes, clothing, bottles and trash cans. My favorite label is their allergy label. It allows you to put your child’s name on it and any special instructions or allergies on it. This ensures your child’s safety and health no matter where your child is or who they are with. And once you put the label on it you know it will stay there because it is dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer safe.

I was able to try some of the labels and was very impressed with how strong and durable they were. They were also so cute and stylish that my daughter was wanting me to label everything she owns. They had a lot of selections in colors and font to choose from which made it a fun experience to pick out the labels. And they aren’t just for the kids as I probably lose, I mean misplace, just as many things as my kids do. They would be perfect to put on the bottom of a cake dish for a potluck to make sure you get it back.

Label Daddy is offering one lucky winner a $30 Label Daddy gift card. To enter: Click here to go to Label Daddy and take a look around. Come back here and leave a comment telling me what your family would use your labels for.

Best quick meal ever!

So, at the last minute tonight I found out I was having a guest for dinner. My kids were taking naps so I couldn't run to the store and I hadn't made any dinner plans, so I quickly routed through the freezer to see what meats I had. The only thing I had was some pork, so I went online to one of my favorite places to get quick recipes, which is Publix's Apron meals. I found this Brown Sugar Glazed pork recipe and absolutely loved it. I made it with my own mashed potatoes instead of sweet potatoes so I can't vouch for the potatoes, but the meat was so yummy. You have to try this recipe!!!! If you are don't know about Publix Apron meals, try it out sometime, they have some really good recipes and most of them are very easy to make.

Brown Sugar Glazed Pork
Ingredients:

3 fresh garlic cloves
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
2 teaspoons Montreal steak seasoning
1 pork tenderloin (about 1 lb)
2 tablespoons butter, divided
1/4 cup red wine

Steps

1. Crush garlic, using garlic press, into medium bowl. Use knife to remove garlic from bottom of press. Stir in brown sugar and steak seasoning until well blended.

2. Preheat large sauté pan on medium 2–3 minutes. Cut pork diagonally into about eight 1-inch-thick slices. Place pork slices in bowl and press into mixture. Turn and press again to lightly season both sides (wash hands).

3. Place 1 tablespoon of the butter in pan; swirl to coat. Add pork (wash hands); cook 5–6 minutes on each side or until well browned and internal temperature reaches 160°F (for medium). Use a meat thermometer to accurately ensure doneness.

4. Remove pork from pan. Stir in wine and remaining 1 tablespoon butter; simmer 1 minute, stirring continually. Serve wine sauce with pork. CALORIES (per 1/4 recipe) 230kcal; FAT 9g; CHOL 90mg;SODIUM 440mg; CARB 8g; FIBER 0g; PROTEIN 24g;VIT A 4%; VIT C 2%; CALC 2%; IRON 8%

Fun Strawberry Outing Today!

Today, the kids and I went to a local U-Pic field and picked some fresh strawberries. There is something about picking the fruit yourself that makes it taste sweeter than ever. The kids had so much fun, I had to keep telling them that they had picked enough. I was worried this might be a very expensive outing at the rate they were picking. After they filled their baskets up so high they couldn't carry them anymore they finally conceded that it was time to stop. We had such a great time and all day long all they wanted to eat was their fresh strawberries. You would think that they were eating candy-they were devouring them so fast. I have decided this might be the best way to get them to eat healthy, let them be a part of the process and see where the food comes from!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

And the color of the day is GREEN.

In honor of this green day, I thought I would give you a few "green" tips. Feel free to comment and add some of your own!
  • Cut down on waste and trim those Packaging Pounds-Buy household items, like detergent and cleaning supplies, in concentrated forms so that you get more product per package.
    http://www.thegreenguide.com/
  • Swap your old incandescent bulbs for compact fluorescents (CFLs). Each bulb may cost a little more (between $2 and $7), but a compact fluorescent will pay for itself in mere months and prevent 450 pounds of power-plant emissions over the bulb's lifetime.
If every U.S. household replaced just one incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb, the amount of energy saved could light 2.5 million homes for a year. http://www.thedailygreen.com/going-green/tips/664
  • Keep it clean. Rather than use synthetic air fresheners to mask an unpleasant odor, find the source of the odor, and clean it up. Then open the windows for fresh air, or use flowers or potpourri to add a more natural scent to your room. If necessary, install air filters and purifiers and other air cleaning devices. http://www.earthshare.org/2008/09/fresh-air.html

Crockpot Recipe

When my husband and I first got married, at my bridal shower everyone gave me a card with their favorite recipe on it. I use two of the cards all of the time...one of them being the phone number to the local Papa Johns Pizza shop! The other one was one for a "Crockpot Steak Diane". It is so simple and easy. A lot of crockpot recipes I have tend to be a lot of work or not very good. This one can be completed in under ten minutes in the morning and then it is ready for dinner whenever I am! This is an absolute favorite anytime I know I am going to be out in the afternoon or have a busy schedule. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. (The card I got says it is from "Steamboat Entertains").

1 1/2 lbs. beef tenderloin or pot roast
2 cups thinly sliced mushrooms (I personally leave this one out, but if you like mushrooms add it!)
1 small white onion, sliced
3 cloves crushed garlic
1 tsp. lemon juice
3 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 c. soy sauce
2 Tbsp. fresh parsley
Dash of oregano
1/2 - 3/4 C. Red wine or cooking sherry
3/4 lb. bag of small carrots
5 potatoes

Place meat in bottom of crockpot. Place remaining ingredients in a 2 c. measuring cup. Mix together and pour over meat. Place carrots on top of meat. Cut potatoes in half and place them on top of carrots.
Turn crockpot on high and cook for 5-6 hours. Or turn crockpot on low and cook for 10-12 hours. And enjoy when you are ready!
